Current Projects

Teen Club

The Teen Club Project is a partnership with the nonprofit No Limits for Deaf Children and Families, where we help the organization run their monthly Teen Club. This program addresses the vital skills needed to develop life-long learners and prepares students to attend and complete college, while also serving as a space for the teens at No Limits to socialize and have fun!

Advocacy

The Advocacy team of DHSO hopes to bridge the gap in D/deaf and hearing communities by advocating for increased accessibility and accommodations through working with other UCLA organizations. Whether through the university level or at a larger scale, the hope is to inspire members to enact real and effective change.

Youth Literacy

The Youth Literacy Program aims to improve d/Deaf and Hard of Hearing school-aged students’ literacy skills through weekly, one-on-one tutoring sessions. Volunteers work on one of five essential literacy skills and report progress back to families at the end of each quarter.

Previous Projects

Humans of Deaf and Hard of Hearing

Formerly the advocacy committee, the Humans of DHH project was meant to share stories from individuals who experienced hearing loss or were part of the Deaf community.

Bridge Project

The aim of this project is to encourage better communication between audiologists and the Deaf community by facilitating educational conversations between these groups, educating audiologists on Deaf culture and their role in helping vs hurting the community.
